This is not a bio.
A bio implies that our lives have already been written, that there is a story to be told. Quite the contrary -- our path is just beginning. We're not here to punish you with information; we're inviting you to gain
a better understanding of where our voice, where our passion,
where our music comes from.
This is an
introduction.

Shaped Like A Gun was formed in Los Angeles, CA in March 2005...and again in February 2006. Andrea Baker plays violin; Blake Durst plays drums; Raymond Lew sings and plays guitar.
Our sound can be described as
Kurt Cobain leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic; or as we are usually told, a mixture of Nirvana, Radiohead, and The Beatles...
...and while we say this with as little pretentiousness as possible, we also state it with
no reservations whatsoever.
We are influenced more by film than music; an emotion rather than a sound; an experience rather than a song.
Music is our memoir -- songs are keys that unlock past tragedies...to be exorcised at each performance, or never to be revisited again.
In short:
we are the sound of letting go.
Our
4-song demo is the product of favors collected over the course of several months. A paid recording studio. A sound booth at a friend's workplace. A quiet room at one of our homes. We record takes in between day jobs, when we are away from our in-laws...whenever we find time for ourselves.
We take great pride in our lyrics, just as a playwright would of their dialogue. Using as roundabout terms as possible, our songs manipulate such topics as
fame, old age, imperialism, and suicide.
We know we will be successful. We've already encountered fragments of success along the way...from every person we meet that exclaims how we belong on a soundtrack, how we need to be on the road...how
we need to be heard.
We know this all will happen.
We know it...it's just a matter of when and how. There's no timetable, but we're not worried -- after all, we've already finished the introduction.
Now it's time to write the story...
